The following writing is a review of this week's Sunday Morning Message

An Enduring Refuge

Psalm 9:7-10

Everyone goes through times of oppression. Sometimes we are oppressed by people, and sometimes just simply by situations. Yet, we have all had times when the oppression of sorts has discouraged us and brought us low.

People do different things to cope with oppression and discouragement. Some people turn to the bottle hoping that drunkenness will help them forget the oppression that they face. Some people turn to drugs hoping that narcotics will help them rise above their oppression. Some people turn to food, they call it stress eating, a time when someone so seeks to indulge themselves in the tastes of pleasure that the pain of their oppression is soothed for a time. These are but temporary measures of relief from the oppression and discouragements of life. There is a more sure and wholesome way in which we can find relief from our oppression and discouragement, and that is through God our Saviour. “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.” (Psalm 9:9)

Sadly so many fail to find His refuge in their life because they simply fail to seek Him in their time of trouble. We are told that He has never forsaken them who seek Him. “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”(Psalm 9:10) This morning will you resolve to seek the Lord as your refuge?

Why should we seek the Lord to be our refuge? There are three encouraging reasons we should seek His refuge in our time of oppression.

He Endureth Forever. (Psalm 9:7)

He is forever and His protection will endure. He is exceedingly strong and will never fail.

He is Prepared. (Psalm 9:7)

He has never been surprised at any situation he has always known what is to come and is ready to help those who seek Him when the situation of oppression arises.

He still has the Throne. (Psalm 9:7)

He is still the judge and no one has removed Him. They cannot cancel Him, and He is not going to resign. He is the King of Kings and He still holds His throne of righteousness.
